UCBC is always on the lookout for new members! Whether you are an experienced senior rower, an aspiring coxswain, or have never set foot in a boat before, there is a crew for you.
Why Row with Castle?
Rowing with UCBC typically involves up to two river water sessions and one dedicated gym session each week, alongside flexible access to the college gym facilities.
We compete across the racing calendar:
- Durham Intercollegiate Events: Novice Cup, Senate Cup, and Admirals Regatta.
- Northern Heads: Rutherford Head, Tyne Head, Durham Small Boats Head.
- National & London Heads: HORR and WEHORR on the Tideway.
- Summer Regattas: Hexham Regatta, Durham Regatta, and appearances at Henley Royal Regatta!
Beyond the water, UCBC hosts legendary social highlights including the Bailey Boat Race, Christmas Dinner, the annual UCBC Ball, and the Summer BBQ.
Novice Programme
UCBC runs one of the most successful Novice Development Programmes in Durham. Each Michaelmas, we take students who have never held an oar and transform them into confident racers.
Novice crews train together under dedicated captains, culminating in the Novice Cup in December and progressing into senior boat categories by summer.
Taster Sessions
Free taster sessions and erg trials run during the first two weeks of Michaelmas Term. Keep an eye on our social channels for dates!
